What is Engineers Australia (EA)?
Engineers Australia (EA) is the Australian Government's authorised assessing authority for engineering occupations under the skilled migration program. If you hold an engineering degree and wish to migrate to Australia, a positive EA skills assessment outcome is a mandatory requirement.
Who Needs This Assessment?
Any engineer applying for a points-tested visa — including Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent), Subclass 190 (Skilled Nominated), or Subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional) — must hold a valid EA skills assessment outcome letter before proceeding.
Occupational Categories
EA recognizes four distinct occupational categories:
- Professional Engineer: 4-year degree. Applies engineering principles to design and manage complex systems.
- Engineering Technologist: 3-year degree. Focused on applying established engineering methods.
- Engineering Associate: Advanced Diploma/Associate Degree. Support roles focusing on practical aspects.
- Engineering Manager: Capacity to lead and oversee engineering functions. Managerial experience is central.
English Language Requirements
Accepted tests include IELTS, TOEFL iBT, and PTE Academic. Exemptions apply for citizens of UK, USA, Canada, NZ, or Ireland, or those who completed an Australian degree taught entirely in English.
